I'm still in awe of your courage. To come out and tell people who you are is an incredibly scary thing... especially growing up in the Mormon community. I think if more people had friends like you and personally knew gay people who were good and decent and talented, they wouldn't be so scared and ignorant about it.
I like Karen's phrase "if more people had friends like you"... I think if more people had friends like you, Nick, the world would be SUCH a more loving and unlonely place!
And, I'm betting, it'd be more laughy, too.
"Life's hard. It's a real bitch sometimes. But everyday it gets better..." God I love that. That feels like such a hopeful, necessary message; everyone needs to hear that it--WHATEVER "it" is--gets better. And I so wish for people that they find ways to move out of self-hatred and into trusting their own inner knowing, over wrongheaded crap they've been taught. AND I SO VERY MUCH wish that EVERYONE could make a public proclamation and be CHEERED by a crowd of strangers! (How awesome is that?!) And know that others are going to be behind them.
But, ya know? I'm thinking that a major reason others are behind you is because you're open and honest and kind and brave, so it's hard not to be behind you. It'd be a better test is you were more tedious and irritating. Although maybe I'm wrong? Maybe other people are really drawn to hateful, angry people who advocate a world of intolerant, compassionless, survival-of-the-unkindest? (I suppose, to be perfectly honest, that I find you extra compelling and insightful-seeming because you think and feel so many things I agree with UTTERLY and COMPLETELY.)
Anyway--even if it's (embarassingly) merely 'cuz I want more people who completely agree with me--I think there should definitely be more people like you.
Also, even if there's no rational reason for it, since we've never (technically) even met--I'm proud of you.
I'm gay. I used to be Mormon. I write about that here.
I also write (or vlog!) about whatever else happens to be on my mind.
Sometimes I post creative projects. If you want them or something similar for yourself or someone you love, email me, because I love money.
Thanks for posting this! Didn't know about your blog until I saw your response on Youtube.
